The story
Con artist or fool? This ambiguity is the common thread linking all our characters, sparking both laughter and surprise.
Pedro is a caricature of the foreigner and a parody of the storyteller. His costume blends folk traditions from around the world; his accent is untraceable; his stage set is full of trinkets and exotic instruments—Pedro himself is a hoax… Yet somehow, we believe him!
The Stories
Obatala (West Africa):
A wild tale of world creation: even when you’re a god, things don’t always go as planned!
The Monkey King (China):
Pedro takes some creative liberties with tradition as he recounts how the popular Sun Wukong obtained a magical object—and eternal life.
The Kou Bird (Mexico):
Pulled out of nothingness without asking for it, the Kou Bird must choose its size, color, call, and home… Easier said than done!
Nasreddin Hodja (Turkey):
The show is peppered with short tales of the mischievous Nasreddin, the wise fool known across the Muslim world.
